Do you really need all those biking gear?

November 5, 2019 by admin

When you were young, you’d take your bike and ride around the neighborhood, but this isn’t advisable if you’re an adult bicyclist. If you’re an adult bicyclist, you need to follow what the law says about riding.

You may be thinking, do you need all of those biking gears?

The answer is YES.

Let’s take a look at these biking gears and how it can help you as a biker.

Cycle Clothing

You’ll see cyclists wearing bright and form-fitting clothing. Cyclists mostly used spandex blends because it helps racers to gain wind resistance and help reduce friction. It also allows riders to be comfortable because it wicks away sweat and prevents bacterial growth down under. It also helps minimize saddle chafing and provides insulation when needed.

Wearing bright colors and reflective materials also help bikers be visible when driving during the night time. This will help prevent potential injuries.

Helmets

Did you know that helmets saved almost 2,000 people from potential death in 2016? Helmets were also able to reduce the number of people who had a head injury by 69 percent. Wearing a helmet is the protective gear that will keep you from severe brain injuries and potential death.

You may be thankful for your trusted helmet for saving you from danger in the past. Keep in mind that helmets also need to be replaced every five years. When choosing a new helmet, go for one with MIPS technology. MIPS technology allows the outer shell of the helmet to protect your head in case of an angled impact better.

GoPro

Bicycles may not have dash cams, but who says that you can’t have a camera? You can easily clip a GoPro onto a helmet, jacket, or other gears.

GoPro can also be helpful when you encountered an accident. It will have a record of the actual event and can be used as evidence if needed.

Gloves

Some people think that gloves are optional for bikers. Gloves are recommended because their primary function is to absorb sweat in the heat. Gloves also provide warmth to your hands during the cold weather.

Shin and Elbow Pads

If you’re up for off-road biking, you need to have shin and elbow pads to keep you from injuries. Wearing these pads while biking in the city can be uncomfortable and can limit your range of motion.

Eye Protection

It is vital for cyclists to wear sunglasses or goggles. Regardless of your choice of eye protection, it is essential to have one because it protects against sun glare. It also prevents dust or wind from irritating the biker’s eyes.

These biking gears are designed to prevent injuries when an accident happened. What if an accident occurred? Who do you call for help? Have your lawyer’s number saved in your phone so you can have someone to call in case you encountered an accident on the road.
